Year of Grace

"I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." Psalm 118:17
Most of you reading this already know one reason why we've been gone from the blog so long...It's been a long, hard year, but I refer to it as the "Year of Grace", borrowed from Robin Mark's album on which is one of my favorite songs, "All Is Well"~
 This is a hard post to make, and I apologize if it's hard on some of you too. But it's part of our lives and reliving it to a certain extent gives us yet another opportunity to say, "Thank You, Jesus!" The van here is the one all of us but Chad were in the night of  Jan. 15, 2013, when we hit an icy spot on the hill of a country road and ran off into a tree. Chad, who we had met coming home from work, was following behind us. It was a cold, dark, winter evening and I remember the stars shining down out of a black velvety sky--funny what you remember sometimes. I was sitting on the very back seat of the van with my little girls when we crashed and my seat belt allowed me to slip underneath it instead of holding me in my seat. I knew I was hurt badly because of the amount of pain I had and after Aubrey freed me from the seat belt, I slipped off the seat and was unable to move from that position until they were finally able to get me from the van into the ambulance which took awhile. Truth be told, I didn't know if I was going to make it or not, and begged God to spare my life so I could stay with Nathan and my children, but also prepared myself if that shouldn't be the case...I've said since that you're not really ready to live until you're ready to die--
 We had been on our way to have supper with some of Nathans family, and beings we were almost there when it happened, the children all went to their uncles house.  From there Damien was also taken to the hospital by ambulance where he was treated that night for a broken arm with follow-up at our local hospital/doctor later. He started out with a cast up past his elbow, which they later reduced to below the elbow for the rest of the time that it was on. He has healed well, for which we are so thankful! "For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord"

I believe without doubt that God's angels were all around us that evening, keeping us from further harm! When you see the front of the van and think of Ty in the passenger seat, you can't help but realize that fact~ Thank You, Lord!!!

Chad's truck after hitting the same ice and crashing into the back of us~ Thankfully he fared better than his truck did!
I was taken to the same hospital as Damien was, but because of the seriousness of my injuries had to be transferred to Freeman in Joplin. I had a broken neck, (C-2 unstable fracture), six broken ribs, both lungs punctured and a small bleed in my head. Before I left all the children were there to see me, as well as my parents and sister who is an R.N. I wouldn't see some of the children for a week until I came home from the hospital, including my baby! I was in this halo for almost 8 weeks. It became very intense because I could barely swallow, but God brought about such a miraculously fast healing that even though they had told me 2-3 months, it was a day short of 8 weeks! I said it was like the floor and the ceiling coming together (in my throat) and it seemed to just get worse and worse until the day it finally came off and I could swallow again! I mostly existed on wonderfully healthy slushies that Nathan would make for me, but still lost about 20 lbs. (not all bad:o) Those were some dark and miserable days, but it was then that He carried me! God never left me to fight through them alone, not for one minute and I bless His name for the gift of His loving presence! I'm also grateful to my dear Nathan for his kind and constant care of me, and all the rest of my family, including my parents and siblings for all they did! My sister Lorraine, was my own personal R.N. and my sister Amie did so much in taking care of the house and my little ones day after day. I don't know what I would've done without all the wonderful care I received...thank You, Jesus!

I was also blessed with so many loving gifts from friends and family...this was after I was home, posing with Damien and this cute little lamb he gave me. My Mom gave me another lamb while still in the hospital and I named the two of them "Goodness" and "Mercy":o) I just marvel at the goodness and mercy of God...He not only spared my life, but let me walk again! Something I heard one of my nurses in ICU say to the staff who accompanied her to move me one time, makes me realize how very blessed I am...something like, "Miss Krista is a lucky girl. Most people with this type of injury, if they survive, don't walk again." So I am incredibly thankful!
"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
 "Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice."
After I had the halo off I had to wear a neck brace for awhile, but that was a breeze compared to the halo! Now I feel almost as well as I did before the accident if I'm careful not to get too tired out and take all my "stuff" and eat right. I'm so grateful for the Lord's healing as well as for all the prayers that were sent Heavenward on our behalf and all the love and help in so many ways that were showered on our family...we are deeply humbled and very, very blessed!
"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever."
